Catch Them Young

Yesterday a group of young students from Sir Luigi Preziosi Girls Secondary School-Pembroke enjoyed a morning of happy barking and purring from our friends at the SPCA. The girls went round the kennels and cat cages talking to the lovable animals who were over the moon with all the attention they got. Ms Pat Valenzia gave a short talk about animal awareness, the students then related stories about their pets and then made donations of food and other items. All in all it was an interesting morning for the students and all at SPCA.

SPCA invites schools to visit our friends . Animal Welfare Education is the start of a better understanding of animals. It is of vital importance that the generation of tomorrow feels and cares for the needs of animals.

Looking forward for other schools to visit our animal friends.

Minister Pullicino at SPCA

Minister George Pullicino visited the SPCA 0n 4th November to present prizes to two participants of the Stray Population Survey. The Survey, initiated by MASS (Malta Association of Shelters and Sanctuaries) formed the first part of the neutering campaign together with the neutering of animals in the sanctuaries and was sponsored by Air Malta, Eukanuba and Royal Canine.

The survey aimed at gathering general information regarding stray animals and was distributed nationwide over the Summer months; the results of which were published in the Times last month.

‘Having completed the first stage of the campaign, the second and larger undertaking of the neutering of strays and owned pets will now take place. This stage will need a great deal of cooperation from the public but it is hoped as with the favourable response to the survey, that this will also go ahead as planned,’ an SPCA spokeperson said.

SPCA Malta and Gozo have just returned from the ICAWC (International Companion Animal Welfare Conference) Conference where they found tremendous support from around the world and plenty of encouragement to carry on their work in Malta and Gozo.
